The Space Situational Awareness (SSA) program is an initiative of the European Space Agency (ESA) to increase Europe's independent access and use of space by providing timely and accurate information about the space environment and, in particular, threats to orbiting infrastructure and support on the ground.

The SSA program is divided into three main segments:
  • Space Weather (SWE) segment: Monitoring of the sun, solar wind, and in the magnetosphere, ionosphere, and thermosphere of the Earth that may affect space-based and ground-based infrastructure or endanger human life or health
  • Near Earth Objects (NEO) segment: Detection of natural objects such as asteroids and comets that have the potential to impact Earth
  • Space Surveillance and Tracking (SST) segment: tracking active and inactive satellites and space debris (collectively referred to as Resident Space Objects (RSOs)).

The SSA program is implemented as an optional ESA program with the financial participation of 14 Member States. The program started in 2009 and its mandate has been extended to 2019. The second phase of the program received EUR 46.5 million for the period 2013-2016.
