Growth Hacking Strategies for Helicopter Swashplate Industry

A swashplate is a device that converts input from the helicopter flight controller into movement of the main rotor blades. As the main rotor blades rotate, the swashplate is used to transmit three commands from the pilot from the non-rotating fuselage to the rotating rotor hub and main blades.

The swash plate consists of two main parts: a stationary swash plate and a rotating swash plate. The stationary (outer) swashplate is mounted on the main rotor mast and connected to the cyclic and collective controls via a series of pushrods. It can tilt in all directions and move vertically. The rotating (inner) swash plate is attached to the stationary swash plate by means of a bearing and is allowed to rotate with the main rotor mast.

An anti-rotation element prevents the inner wobble from rotating independently of the blades, which would exert a torque on the actuators. The outer swash plate also typically has an anti-rotation slide to keep it from rotating. Both swash plates tilt up and down as a unit. The rotating swashplate is connected to the pitch horns via the pitch links. Alternative mechanics to the stationary (outer) swash plate are the hexapod and the universal joint. Swash plates for helicopters with two rotors mounted on the same shaft are much more complex than the helicopters with one rotor.
