Comprehensive Study on HYDRAULIC TESTING SERVICES Industry

A hydrostatic test is a method that can be used to test pressure vessels such as pipes, pipelines, gas cylinders, boilers, and fuel tanks for strength and leaks. The test involves filling the vessel or piping system with a liquid, usually water, that can be coloured to aid in visual leak detection and pressurizing the vessel to the specified test pressure. The pressure tightness can be tested by closing the supply valve and detecting a loss of pressure. The location of a leak can be more easily identified visually if the water contains a dye. Strength is usually tested by measuring the permanent set of the container.

The hydrostatic test is the most common method for testing pipes and pressure vessels. Using this test helps maintain a ship's safety standards and durability over a longer period of time. Newly manufactured parts are first qualified with the hydrostatic test. They are then re-qualified at regular intervals using the test pressure test, also known as the modified hydrostatic test. Testing of pressure vessels used to transport and store gases is very important because such vessels can explode if they fail under pressure.

Hydrostatic tests are performed under industry or customer conditions or may be required by law. The vessel is filled with a nearly incompressible liquid - usually water or oil - that is pressurized to test the pressure and inspected for leaks or permanent changes in shape. Red or fluorescent dyes can be added to the water to make leaks more visible. For safety reasons, the test pressure is always considerably higher than the operating pressure. This safety factor is usually 166.66%, 143% or 150% of the intended working pressure, depending on the applicable regulations.
