Know about Industrial Controls and Factory Automation Industry

Industrial control system (ICS) is a generic term that encompasses various types of control systems and related instruments used for industrial process control. Such systems can range from a few modular switchboard controllers to large interconnected and interactive distributed control systems with many thousands of field connections. Systems receive data from remote sensors that measure process variables (PVs), compare the collected data with desired setpoints (SPs), and derive command functions that are used to control a process through actuators (FCEs) such as control valves.

Some of the key players of Industrial Controls and Factory Automation Industry:

Siemens, Mitsubishi Electric, ABB, Emerson, Rockwell Automation, Schneider Electric, Keyence, Bosch Rexroth, Honeywell, Fanuc, Omron, Yokogawa Electric, Fuji Electric, KuKa, Inovance Group, General Electric

Larger systems are typically implemented by supervisory and data acquisition systems (SCADA) or distributed control systems (DCS) and programmable logic controllers (PLC), although SCADA and PLC systems are scalable to small systems with few control loops. Such systems are widely used in industries such as chemical processing, pulp and paper manufacturing, power generation, oil and gas processing, and telecommunications.

The simplest control systems are based on small discrete controls, each with a single control loop. These are usually mounted on the control panel, allowing a direct view of the front panel and allowing the operator to manually intervene to either manually control the process or change the control setpoints. Originally these were pneumatic controls, some of which are still in use, but almost all are now electronic.
