Future Scope of IoT Gateway Industry

A gateway is network hardware used in telecommunications for telecommunications networks that enables data to flow from one discrete network to another. Gateways differ from routers or switches in that they communicate using more than one protocol to connect a number of networks and can operate on any of the seven levels of the Open Systems Interconnection Model (OSI).

PTC (ThingWorx), Telit, Cisco (Jasper), Google, IBM, Microsoft, Oracle, Intel, Amazon, SAP, Aeris, Particle, Exosite, General Electric, AT&T, Zebra Technologies, relayr, Xively (LogMeIn), Gemalto, Ayla Networks, Teezle, Bosch Software Innovations

A network gateway provides interoperability between networks and contains devices such as protocol translators, impedance matchers, rate converters, fault isolators, or signal translators. A network gateway requires the establishment of mutually acceptable administrative procedures between the networks using the gateway. Network gateways, so-called protocol translation gateways or mapping gateways, can perform protocol conversions in order to connect networks with different network protocol technologies.

For example, a network gateway connects an office or home intranet to the Internet. When a user of an office or home computer tries to load a web page, at least two network gateways are accessed - one to get from the office or home network to the Internet and one to get from the Internet to the computer that is serving the website.
