Public Key Infrastructure Industry
Flourishing demand for Public Key Infrastructure Industry
A public key infrastructure (PKI) is a set of roles, policies, hardware, software, and procedures required to create, manage, distribute, use, store, and revoke digital certificates and manage public key encryption. The purpose of a PKI is to facilitate the secure electronic transfer of information for a variety of network activities, such as electronic commerce, Internet banking, and confidential email. It is required for activities where simple passwords are an inappropriate authentication method and more rigorous tests are required to confirm the identity of the parties involved in the communication and to validate the information being transferred.Get Sample PDF

The link is established through a process of registration and issuance of certificates in and by a certification authority (CA). Depending on the bond's assurance level, this can be done through an automated process or under human supervision.
The PKI role that a CA can delegate to ensure correct and valid registration is called a Registration Authority (RA). Basically, an RA is responsible for accepting requests for digital certificates and for authenticating the entity making the request. RFC 3647 of the Internet Engineering Working Group defines an RA as "An entity responsible for one or more of the following functions: identification and authentication of certificate applicants, approval or rejection of certificate requests, initiation of revocation or suspension of certificates in certain circumstances, process requests from subscribers to revoke or suspend their certificates, and approve or reject requests from subscribers to renew or change the key of their certificates.
