Rich Communication Services (RCS) is a communication protocol between cellular service providers and between the telephone and cellular service provider, which aims to replace SMS messages with a more extensive text messaging system, to provide phonebook queries (for service identification) and to transfer calls during the call multimedia. It is part of a broader IP multimedia subsystem.
