In telecommunications, 5G is the fifth generation technology standard for broadband cellular networks, which cellular companies began to implement worldwide in 2019, and is the planned successor to 4G networks that provide connectivity to most of current cell phones. The main advantage of the new networks is that they will have higher bandwidth, giving higher download speeds, eventually up to 10 gigabits per second (Gbit / s). The speed increase is achieved in part by using radio waves higher in frequency than previous cellular networks. However, high-frequency radio waves have a shorter useful physical range, requiring smaller geographic cells. For broad service, 5G networks operate in up to three frequency bands, low, medium, and high.
