Current Trends and Future Opportunities for Wi-Fi Extender Industry

A wireless repeater (also known as a wireless range extender) is a device that takes an existing signal from a wireless router or wireless access point and retransmits it to create a second network. When two or more hosts need to be connected using the IEEE 802.11 protocol and the distance is too great to connect directly, a wireless repeater is used to fill the gap. It can be a special stand-alone computer network device. Some WNICs (Wireless Network Interface Controllers) optionally support operation in such a mode.

Some of the key players of Wi-Fi Extender Industry:

Amped Wireless., ASUSTeK Computer Inc., devolo AG, D-Link Corporation., EDIMAX Technology Co., Ltd., Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd., Linksys, NETGEAR, TP-Link Corporation Limited., Ubee Interactive.

These outsides of the primary network can connect over the new "repeating" network. In relation to the original router or access point, however, only the repeater MAC is connected, so security functions must be activated on the wireless repeater. Wireless repeaters are commonly used to improve signal range and strength in homes and small offices.

Uses

  • If there is no WiFi hotspot in an area
  • In an area with many disturbances.
  • Interference can be caused by many environmental factors, such as microwaves (such as from a microwave oven), metal appliances or coatings, or an obstructed line of sight.
  • When the computer and the wireless access point or wireless router are too far away for the internal wireless network interface card to receive the wireless signal.
  • When networking in an interference environment with multiple computers, networks, or hubs
